Borobudur temple which the biggest Budha Temple in 19th century, has area approximately 123 x 123 meters. Borobudur temple has been proclaimed be one of the seven wonders in the world. Borobudur is located in Magelang. If you want to travel to Boroboudur from Solo, you can take a bus or car for 2,5 hours. Borobudur looks like pyramid with height approximately 29 meters, consists more than 500 Budha statues which composed from more than 2 millions stones.
Borobudur was built between 8th century and 9th ago (1200 years ago) by Syailendra dynasty. The construction of temple was estimated for 75 years and completed in 825 AD. After more centuries of its existence, Borobudur was burried under the ground because of Merapi eruption. In 1814, Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles finally found the temple.
Seeing from the top, Borobudur looks like giant mandala, represents human journey from samsara to nirvana. Reliefs of Borobudur reflects Budha teachings which life consits 3 levels, first Kamadhatu (world of desire), Rupadhatu (real world) and Arupadhatu (the world of spirit). The lowest level, Kamadhatu, consists 160 reliefs which represents Karmawibhangga Sutra, law of cause and effect (human life). At the second level contains Budhdhist reliefs, represents humas’s freedom from worldly things. The final level, Arupadhatu, represents the abode of gods.
