Building Sustainable Tourism: Surakarta Partners with Poltekpar Bali for Community Empowerment

Surakarta, November 3, 2025 – The Department of Culture and Tourism (Disbudpar) of Surakarta City successfully collaborated with the Bali Tourism Polytechnic (Poltekpar Bali) in implementing an institutional Community Service Program (PKM). The event, themed “Training on Strengthening Community-Based Sustainable Tourism Products and Marketing in the Tourism Villages of Surakarta, Central Java,” was held on Monday (October 20, 2025).

The program took place at Zigna Kampung Batik and was officially opened by Dr. Drs. Ida Bagus Putu Puja, M.Kes., Director of the Bali Tourism Polytechnic, along with Siti Khotimah, S.Sos., M.M., Secretary of the Department of Culture and Tourism of Surakarta City.

In her remarks, the Secretary of Disbudpar Surakarta expressed her appreciation for the successful implementation of the event.

“This year marks the second consecutive year of this community service program, which began in 2024. We hope this positive initiative will continue annually and bring tangible benefits to the community,” said the Secretary of Disbudpar.

As part of the Surakarta City Government’s commitment, Terry Sulistyaningrum, S.ST., M.Hum., attended the event as one of the speakers, presenting material on “The Role of the City Government in Supporting Community-Based Tourism Marketing and Branding in Surakarta.”

The event, which ran from 9:00 a.m. until late afternoon, also featured several other speakers, including Dr. Rahmawati, S.Sos., MM.Par, who presented Session 2: Planning Community-Based Tourism Destinations, and Made Darmiati, S.Sn., M.Si, who discussed Local Culture as an Inspiration for Sustainable Tourism Product Development.

This Collaborative PKM Program by the Tourism Department of Poltekpar Bali is expected to have a positive impact and provide continuous support for the empowerment and sustainability of tourism village communities in Surakarta.
