Stasiun Purwosari

Purwosari Station is located on Slamet Riyadi Street, Purwosari, Laweyan, Surakarta. It is the oldest railway station in Solo, established on March 27, 1871. The station was inaugurated by the Nederlandsch Indische Spoorwagen Maatschappij (Netherlands Indies Railway Company).

In 1907, the station was rebuilt with an architectural style similar to Kedungjati Station and Willem I Station in Ambarawa. Purwosari Station has 9 railway tracks: 4 serve as main lines, 3 as freight car stabling tracks, and 2 for the locomotive depot and cement warehouse.

In the past, a railway line from Purwosari led to Boyolali via Kartasura, with a branch line in Tegalsari heading to Colomadu. These lines are no longer in use, though remnants of the tracks can still be seen today. On the eastern side, the line heading to Wonogiri is still active.

From 1912 to 1925, Purwosari Station held the status of an island station. Today, it still functions as a depot, but no longer for locomotives—now it serves as a mechanical depot. Traces of the former locomotive depot remain, most notably a water tower located on the north side of the station.
