Rumah Kriya Banjarsari is a historic building that was originally constructed as the official residence of the Assistant Resident of Surakarta, C.A. Rosemeier, who served as the head of the commission Raad van toezicht belast met de regeling van financieele aangelegenheden van de Mangkoenagorosche landen en bezittingen (Supervisory Board in charge of managing the finances of Mangkunegaran lands and assets). His appointment as chairman of the commission was made by the Resident of Surakarta, A.J. Spaan, and approved by Mangkunegara V on July 19, 1888.
In 1917, the area surrounding Rumah Kriya Banjarsari began to develop with the construction of several houses intended for rent to Dutch administrative staff. This area eventually grew into an elite residential neighborhood known as Villapark Banjarsari.
After Indonesia's independence, the ownership of Rumah Kriya Banjarsari was transferred to the government based on Government Regulation No. 16/SD/1946 concerning the governance of the Special Regions of Yogyakarta and Surakarta.
Today, the building is an asset of the provincial government and is managed by the Central Java Provincial Office of Industry and Trade. It serves as a creative house used for exhibitions of furniture products made by local MSMEs.
