Rumah Kriya Banjarsari was originally built as the official residence of the Assistant Resident of Surakarta, C.A. Rosemeier.
C.A. Rosemeier served as the head of the Raad van toezicht belast met de regeling van financieele aangelegenheden van de Mangkoenagorosche landen en bezittingen (Supervisory Board responsible for managing the financial affairs of Mangkunegaran lands and properties). His appointment was approved by Mangkunegara V and issued by the Resident of Surakarta, A.J. Spaan, on July 19, 1888.
In 1917, the area surrounding Rumah Kriya Banjarsari saw the development of several houses to be rented to Dutch administrative officials. This marked the beginning of an elite residential area later known as Villapark Banjarsari.
After Indonesia’s independence, Rumah Kriya Banjarsari became a government asset based on Government Regulation No. 16/SD/1946 concerning the Special Regional Government of Yogyakarta and Surakarta.
Today, the building is owned by the provincial government and managed by the Central Java Provincial Office of Industry and Trade. It functions as a creative house showcasing furniture products made by local MSMEs.
