The statue of Soeratin is located in front of the Persis Solo Hall on Gajah Mada Street No. 73, Ketelan Subdistrict, Banjarsari District, Surakarta City. The name Soeratin refers to Ir. Soeratin Sosrosoegondo, the founding figure of Indonesia’s football organization. Soeratin was passionate about football and believed it was a powerful medium to spread the spirit of nationalism. The statue was inaugurated on April 19, 1960, in conjunction with the 30th anniversary of the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI). The inauguration was carried out by Ir. Soeratin’s wife, RA Srie Woelan. Alongside the statue, a building was also constructed, which now functions as the Persis Hall.
Over time, Ir. Soeratin’s name was adopted for a national youth football tournament called the Soeratin Cup. The Soeratin Cup is one of the oldest and largest youth football tournaments in Indonesia, first held in 1965. The inaugural tournament, held in Jakarta, was won by the team from Malang. The tournament aims to discover and nurture young Indonesian football talents who have the potential to achieve success at the international level.
