Dalem Doyoatmojo was originally a residence belonging to Kwee Tjien Gwan, who held the title of Kapiten Tituler of the Chinese community in Surakarta. The role of the Kapiten was not only executive in nature but also included handling legal (customary) matters for the Chinese community. His presence facilitated the Dutch colonial government in overseeing the Chinese population, especially in matters of trade and ethnic organizational structuring.
After Indonesia’s independence, the building was repurposed as a military office during the Second Dutch Military Aggression (Agresi Militer Belanda II). Later, ownership shifted to Kanjeng Pangeran Haryo (KPH) Salahuddin Setiawan Djodi Nur Hadiningrat, better known as Setiawan Djodi, a renowned rock musician and a member of the legendary group Kantata Taqwa.
Today, the house is owned by KPH H. Nur Harjanto Doyoatmojo.
