It was built to commemorate the massacre of civilians in the Pasar Nongko area by Dutch troops at the end of the four-day general offensive in the Battle of Solo. The monument was officially inaugurated by the Chairman of the National Daily Council of the '45 Generation on Heroes Day, November 10, 1980.
