Written in Arabic numerals above the main door, the Al Fatih mosque was built in 1312 AH or 1891 AD. This mosque was built by Kanjeng Raden Adipati Sosrodiningrat IV, Prime Minister (Pepatih Dalem), at the request of Paku Buwono IX. It is said that this mosque was built as a dowry for Paku Buwono IX’s proposal to a princess who later became one of his wives.
Since its establishment, this mosque has been under the management of the Surakarta Palace. However, after Indonesia gained independence, the management was transferred to the Ministry of Religious Affairs.
Al-Fatih mosque underwent gradual development according to its needs. The first development was the addition of a Pawestren and a warehouse. Pawestren comes from the word “pawestri”, which means woman, referring to a room specially made for women. Meanwhile, the warehouse with a size and shape similar to Pawestren was built on the south side of the main hall.
The second development was the addition of a two-tiered extension at the front of the mosque, completed in 1992. This expansion was carried out because the number of worshippers at Al Fatih mosque exceeded its capacity, necessitating the construction of a new building.
The third development, in 2019, was the installation of paving blocks for the courtyard and the provision of a toilet for men and women
