In 1901, in Surakarta, an association of abdi dalem (palace servants) was established with the aim of providing assistance to those abdi dalem who were struggling due to their salaries often being used to pay off debts to loan sharks. The establishment of the Bandha Lumaksa Office made it easier for the abdi dalem to obtain loans with lower interest rates compared to loan sharks, and the abdi dalem could also set aside part of their wages for repayment. The capital to establish this office was provided by ISKS Paku Buwono X, amounting to Rp. 130,000. The employees of the Bandha Lumaksa Office were appointed by the Kasunanan Palace.
