This building, established in the late 19th century, was initially used as a medical care center (Verzorgingsgesticht te Soerakarta). Functionally serving as a healthcare facility, the building features a simple and firm façade, dominated by rows of windows on its front elevation. The interior design also reflects a straightforward approach, devoid of ornate architectural detailing. Originally, the space was designed to be open-plan, likely using semi-permanent partitions in the past.
Although constructed during the architectural period of the Indische Kingdom (18th century), which is often characterized by Roman-style columns on façades, such columns are absent from this building. The Indische Kingdom influence is instead evident in the building’s symmetrical layout, where the central unit serves as the focal point. In contrast, other buildings in the Vastenburg Fortress area such as the GPIB Church, City Hall, PTT Office, Slier Hotel, Bank Indonesia Building, and residences in Loji Wetan prominently feature Roman columns—though many of those elements have now disappeared.
The structure is based on load-bearing walls with a thickness of 70 cm. The front façade lacks a gallery (veranda), and the front wall extends up to the roofline, giving the impression of a solid mass without a traditional tiled roof. To shield the windows from rainwater, additional awnings are installed above each window supported by iron brackets. The central building showcases a firm and straightforward architectural style, accentuated by horizontal lines at the top and corners of the structure. A hammer emblem placed at the center of the main building serves as the visual focal point. Viewed from the rear, the building has a narrow-spanned limasan (hipped) roof.
