Melati Suryodarmo is a performance artist from Solo, Indonesia. Melati began working in the world of fine arts in 1994, with a focus on studying the fields of Spatial Concepts and Performance Art at the Hochschule fuer Bildende Kuenste Braunscweig (HBK), Germany. For 20 years, Melati has presented her performance works at various international festivals and has also actively participated in art exhibitions in various countries.

For Melati Suryodarmo, the human body is an important source of inspiration for her works. Melati does not view the human body only from a physical perspective. But for him, the body is a constantly growing load of memory. The body has resistance to the environment in which it lives. The system that moves in the human psychological body, encourages him to continue to seek and find new structures of behavior and thoughts about humans and their humanity. He is not just a body having functions, but he is the constellation of all the mixing and changing of human civilization. The body can also be very simple, such as a piece of identity card, printed and laminated.

In understanding her work, Melati uses the term language without words (Unspoken Language). For him, performance art is more related to a series of actions performed and selected to represent thoughts, which are based on a research process and presented in a certain space and time, where the doors of perception then grow.
