Wisma Batari was originally the main building situated between two pavilion structures on its right and left sides. During the Dutch colonial period, it served as a residential house. Later, under Japanese occupation, it was repurposed as the headquarters of the Kempetai (Japanese military police).

After Indonesia’s independence, the building complex was once used as the office of the Indonesian Batik Cooperatives Association (Gabungan Koperasi Batik Indonesia – GKBI) in Surakarta.Several structural changes have occurred at the rear of the building, while the front section has been largely preserved. In addition to the colonial-style canopy, the front porch (veranda) serves as a transitional space leading to the main meeting room. Rows of iron columns, characteristic of colonial architecture, are seen standing between large supporting pillars.
