Poo An Kiong Vihara was built in 1881 and still functions well today as a place of worship. The appearance of the vihara is quite similar to Avalokitesvara Vihara (Tien Kok Sie Temple), in terms of its architectural form, ornaments, and spatial layout.

The building is located along Jalan Yos Sudarso, just west of Pasar Klewer, in the heart of Solo’s Chinatown (Pecinan area).

Together with the Tien Kok Sie Temple, this vihara stands as evidence of the Chinese cultural influence that once entered and shaped the city of Surakarta.
