Patung Gatot Subroto

General Gatot Subroto was born on October 10, 1907, in Sumpiuh, Banyumas. At the beginning of his career, he served as a member of the KNIL, the Royal Netherlands East Indies Army. During the Japanese occupation, he joined the Defenders of the Homeland (PETA), and after Indonesia's independence, he became part of the People's Security Army (TKR). In 1948, he was appointed as the Military Governor of Region II (Semarang-Solo) and successfully led his troops in suppressing the PKI rebellion in Muso on September 18, 1948. For this, the Indonesian government honored him with the title of National Hero. He passed away on June 11, 1962, in Jakarta. To commemorate one of Indonesia's prominent figures, a memorial monument was built in the yard of the Loji Gandrung house, which was his residence during his tenure as the Military Governor of Region II (Semarang-Solo).
