Lodji Kadipolo is a colonial-era building located in the Sriwedari area of Surakarta. The name "Lodji Kadipolo" comes from the old village of Kadipolo, which was the original name of the Sriwedari area in the past. Lodji Kadipolo was once owned by Johanes Albertus Wilkens, a Dutch government official who specialized in the Javanese language. It was later purchased by Johannes Busselar on November 12, 1875. Two years later, on December 5, 1877, Busselar sold the property to Raden Mas Tumenggung Weriodiningrat, recorded under ownership number 49. There are no known records of the building being actively used as a residence until 1913, when RMH Djajadiningrat, a member of the Paheman Radya Pustaka committee, requested the building to be used as the Radya Pustaka Museum—a role it continues to serve today.
The Paheman Radya Pustaka was founded by Patih Dalem KRA. Sasradiningrat IV on October 28, 1890. It was originally located at Panti Wibawan Kepatihan Surakarta and served as a gathering place for literary, historical, artistic, and cultural enthusiasts. The institution aimed to promote knowledge and produce literary works that could be valuable sources of learning for the people of Surakarta. Part of its mission was to collect books and literary works from the royal poets of the Surakarta Palace for research, study, and preservation in its library. However, since its location at the Kepatihan complex was considered too formal or intimidating for the general public, on January 1, 1913, Radya Pustaka was moved to Lodji Kadipolo in the Sriwedari complex. This relocation made it more accessible to the people of Surakarta, allowing them to visit and learn from the museum's collection of books and historical artifacts.
