The Sondakan Monument was inaugurated by the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs, Surono on August 20, 1983 to commemorate the events of August 7 to 10, 1949 during the Dutch Military Aggression II, which is now known as the Four-Day General Offensive in Surakarta (Solo). Sondakan Village was one of the battle areas led by Mayor Achmadi in defending the Solo area after it was taken over by the Dutch.
