The Pura Mangkunegaran Palace has stood since 1575, founded by Raden Mas Said (also known as Prince Suryakusuma), who later became famous as Prince Samber Nyawa and was bestowed the title KGPAA Mangkunegara I. The establishment of the Pura Mangkunegaran Palace was the result of Raden Mas Said’s struggle and resistance against Sunan Pakubuwono II and Sunan Pakubuwono III. This conflict ended with the signing of an agreement between Raden Mas Said and Sunan Pakubuwono III in 1757, known as the Treaty of Salatiga. Following this agreement, Raden Mas Said was appointed as Pangeran Miji—a prince who was directly under the authority of the Sunan—and was granted the noble title Kanjeng Pangeran Adipati Mangkunegara.
