In 1901, a union of royal servants (abdi dalem) was established in Surakarta with the aim of providing financial assistance to those struggling due to their salaries often being depleted by debts owed to moneylenders. The establishment of Kantor Bandha Lumaksa offered a solution by providing loans to abdi dalem with lower interest rates than those charged by moneylenders. It also enabled them to set aside a portion of their wages for savings.
The initial capital to build this office was provided by His Majesty Pakubuwono X, amounting to Rp.130,000. The Kasunanan Palace officially appointed the employees who managed the Kantor Bandha Lumaksa.
Originally, Kantor Bandha Lumaksa was located in Kampung Timuran, sharing space with the Habipraya Association Office. With the support of putra sentana (royal descendants) and abdi dalem who entrusted or deposited their funds, the office was eventually able to move into its own dedicated building in the Kedunglumbu area.
