Mangunjayan Mental Hospital was established in 1918 under the name Doorganghuis Voor Krankzinnigen led by Dr. Engelhard. After that, the leadership was transferred to native doctors such as Dr. Semeru, Dr. Wignyobroto and Dr. RM. Soejarwadi. It was once used as the office of Arseto, Orari, the Population and Civil Registration Office of Surakarta City. Currently, this former building has been used as the office of the UPT Museum of the Surakarta Culture and Tourism Office.
